According to ancient Chinese medication, feet are one of the top healing points of your body. Therefore, any so-called ‘cure’ applied to the feet can have effect throughout the body. Alternately, your feet also bear the brunt of your whole day. The long hours you spend on your feet, plus the uncomfortable shoes you may be getting them into. All in all, your feet definitely deserve a foot detox at home!
Why detox bath for feet?
While simply a foot bath or soak tends to bring a lot of relief, you can actually get two benefits in one if you go the detox way. Not only do you end up relaxing your feet, you also effectively remove toxins from the body in the least messy detox bath possible! This is because the feet are actually a repository for the body – and quite a few of the toxins can be accessed from the feet and also removed using the right foot bath. And today we have brought you a great way to manage this right at home!
The method may seem a little complicated at first – but once you get into the habit, you will find it is easy enough. Also the relaxation is so total that this can also be a great way to wind down for bed after a particularly hectic day!
So, let’s get started…
What you will need for this detox foot bath
Here are the things you will be needing. Get these together before you start, so that you can then get on with the relaxing ‘ritual’:
- Epsom salts
- Bentonite Clay
- Essential oil of your choice
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- A brush with natural bristles
- Hot water
- A tub to soak your feet in
How to go about it
To begin with, boil the water and pour it into the tub. Into this add ½ a cup of the Epsom salts and stir with a wooden spoon to dissolve. Set this aside while you get on with the rest. By the time you have finished the other processes, this water will become tolerably warm – so do not worry now.
Now take 2 tbsp. of the bentonite clay in a bowl. Make a paste by mixing it with a tablespoon of the Apple Cider Vinegar. Spread this liberally over both your feet, ankle downwards. Now let the clay mixture dry for about 10 minutes.
Once that is done, move to the tub. First add 10 drops of any essential oil (or even blend) you prefer, and then place your feet in the water. Let your feet soak in the water for 15 minutes. By this time most of the clay will have dissolved and the Epsom salt will also affect your feet.
After this use the natural bristle brush to scrub your feet liberally before rinsing and drying your feet. Follow up with cream (optional) and then just relax!
But one question that you are probably asking is…
Why the bentonite clay and Epsom salt
This is because both have potent detoxifying effect. The bentonite clay becomes like a sponge and releases negatively charged ions when any liquid is added to it. The negative ions attach themselves to the positively charged toxins – and these then get absorbed and locked into the wet clay.
On the other hand – Epsom salts also help to detoxify as well as kill bacteria and soften feet.
Together they are the perfect recipe for your foot detox at home. And while you may have your doubts now – after you have actually tried this bath – about 2-3 times a week at the most – you too will agree! So do give it a shot!
